Not even the Chinese can speak Chinese

There was an article in today's Taipei Times that made me feel a little better. According to Half of China can't speak Mandarin, only fifty three percent of China's population can speak standard Chinese, and they have been promoting it as a common language for fifty years now. I just thought I'd pass that on to the rest of us struggling with this purposely incomprehensible language. Have a nice day.
