If its not one thing...

Last month I expressed some doubts over whether the Israeli pullout from the Gaza Strip was going to be a good or bad thing for the Palestinians. I thought they would use this positive PR from Gaza to smooth over further atrocities in the West Bank, including the eventual completion of their illegal wall.

But that's not all, folks. Palestinians hit by sonic boom air raids informs us that the troubles in Gaza aren't going anywhere.

Now that the Israeli 'settlers' are no longer in the way, the IDF has taken to creating sonic booms by flying jets very fast and very low at night over the recently vacated area. This latest tactic can cause nosebleeds, miscarriages and abject terror.
A senior Israeli army intelligence source, who the military would not permit to be named, said the tactic is intended to break civilian support for armed Palestinian groups. "We are trying to send a message in a way that doesn't harm people. We want to encourage the Palestinian public to do something about the terror situation," he said. "What are the alternatives? We are not like the terrorists who shoot civilians. We are cautious. We make sure nobody is really hurt."

I can't even begin to rant about these comments without losing my general audience rating, but I'll give it a try and just go back and edit out all the swear words later.

"...the tactic is intended to break civilian support for armed Palestinian groups."

This sort of tactic will only entrench support for these groups, or add to it, as it has done throughout history.

"We are trying to send a message in a way that doesn't harm people."

Nosebleeds, miscarriages, panic attacks, fear, and "thousands of broken windows." They have failed to send their message in a harmless way, however it could be considered less harmful than their usual tactics.

"We want to encourage the Palestinian public to do something about the terror situation,"

I'm sure they are referring to the terror situation they see posed by the armed Palestinian groups, but the terror situation they are exposing is the one they have created.

"What are the alternatives?"

The alternatives are opening discussion with the peoples they have subjected, treating the Palestinians with respect, or, Heaven forbid, giving back all the lands they have stolen and trying to make reparations for all the people they have killed and all the damage they have done.

"We are not like the terrorists who shoot civilians."

You are like the terrorists. You do shoot civilians. As of September first, 3710 Palestinians have been killed in the second intafada; the majority of those were civilians, including a whack of children and old folks. This latest "tactic" has caused at least 20 miscarriages. Are we going to hear another cock and bull story about how those unborn children were in fact 'terrorists"?

"We are cautious."

"The military was forced to apologise after one sonic boom was unintentionally heard hundreds of kilometers inside Israel last week. Maariv newspaper described it as sounding "like a heavy bombardment. The noise that shook the Israeli skies was frightening. Thousands of citizens leapt in panic from their beds, and many of them placed worried calls to the police and the fire department. The Tel Aviv and central district police switchboards crashed.""

"We make sure nobody is really hurt."

Nosebleeds, miscarriages, panic attacks, fear, and "thousands of broken windows."

"'Sound bombs' that cause widespread fear, induce miscarriages and traumatise children."

"They describe the effect as being hit by a wall of air that is painful on the ears, sometimes causing nosebleeds and "leaving you shaking inside"."

"The sonic booms have led to miscarriages and heart problems."

"...panic attacks in children."

"People suffer hypertension, fatigue, sleeplessness."

"The UN Palestinian refugee agency said a majority of the patients seen at its clinics as a result of the sonic booms were under 16 and suffering from symptoms such as anxiety attacks, bedwetting, muscle spasms, temporary loss of hearing and breathing difficulties."

"The number of patients admitted to the cardiac care unit doubled. Some of them proved to have suffered serious harm."

(Strings of expletives deleted)

Liars, liars, pantses on fires. You have become that which you have forever sought to escape. The real tragedy, I suppose, is that you're really no different than anyone else. Maybe it's time to drop the "Holier-than-everybody-else-shtick."
