Ominous Signs across the Strait

The Taipei Times carried a little story on Friday titled Lawyer defending Chinese villagers in land dispute arrested which suggests that the powers that be, in the Middle Kingdom, are not playing so nicely.

Then today's Guardian ran the headline 'They beat him until he was lifeless' which is further subtitled, "How democracy activist in China's new frontline was left for dead after a brutal attack by a uniformed mob" which suggests that things are heating up across the water.

It seems that Hu Jin Tao is running his thugs around the provinces again. I hope they can't swim. Barring that, it's probably not a good time to go vacationing in southern Guangdong.
