The Fatherland Re-divided

Well, the German people went to polls yesterday in an attempt to do their best impression of the American people, or the people of Taiwan. What they wanted was a mandate, a new chancellor. What they got was Confusion as both Merkel and Schroder claim chancellorship Despite a 21 point lead that Angela Merkel originally enjoyed over Gehartd Schroder, they managed to get about 35% each and have each declared themselves the winner.

So, congradulations to both of them. God, I hope those Germans have a supreme court or something, so they can work all this out. Remember when elections used to provide voters with a winner and a loser instead of just a prolonged campaign?
