Robert Fisk Returns to Baghdad

My favorite journalist has returned to Baghdad and written a short piece with a long title, Ten minutes on a trip to the supermarket can mean the difference between life and death. One line that stood out was,
We drive across the Tigris, waved through by a policeman in a hood - cops and insurgents both wear hoods which makes life a little tiring - and arrive at the grim little hotel where The Independent has its office.

There is a lot of talk about how the Americans have brought freedom to the Iraqis, but this 'freedom' is the special, restricted kind that translates into the freedom for some to die, uncounted, while others make fistfuls of blood money.

Remind me again how freedom is served when the cops wear hoods?
