Mongolian Eagle Hunters

Firstly, Shin Nyan Qwai Le, Gong Shi, Fat Sai, Happy Chinese New Year, Happy Year of the Cockerel. May this year bring peace, and see us all healthy and happy.

I just saw the greatest show on the Animal Planet Channel. It was about these people in Mongolia that use trained eagles to hunt. They are the Kazakh people. The show featured a father and son bombing around Mongolia through snowy mountains and bad lands on the horses that Ghenghis used to ride, with these massive, hooded Golden eagles on their raised arms. It was amazing watching them take down foxes and cute, little bunnies.

At the end of the show, the father sets his eagle free because its time. nomadicexpeditions.com explains,
Kazakhs release the eagles into the wild at the age of seven, while they still have half their lifespan remaining, in order to ensure preservation of the species.

The show ends with the line, "Only eagles can stare directly into the sun without hurting their eyes."

Mongolianresorts.com had this to say about the eagle hunting,
One of the oldest, most revered and spectacular celebrations for Kazakh people, passed down from generation to generation, is hunting with trained eagles. It exhibits the real pride of the Kazakhs. They annually hold an exceptional feast called the Eagle Hunting Festival in the extreme air of the majestic Altai mountains , among the river glaciers and beautiful landscape in Bayan-Ulgii province.

But the best TV quote from tonight goes to the 2004 MTV Movie awards; Eminem, backstage, saying to D-12, "Okay, we're not getting paid, let's go out there and f*** around." {Their censorship, not mine(or his,) we can swear all we want here at Blogspot.}
