National Guard Jet Strafes School... in New Jersey

Here's the opening paragraph from an AP article that was written just after Bush "won" the "election."

LITTLE EGG HARBOR, N.J. Nov 4, 2004 — A National Guard F-16 fighter jet on a nighttime training mission strafed an elementary school with 25 rounds of ammunition, authorities said Thursday. No one was injured.

When I started reading that an American jet had hit a school I was ready to skip on to the next article. I mean, the Americans are hitting schools, hospitals orphanages and wedding receptions all the time. I was a little surprised at the low body count and then I realised that the school in question was in New Jersey.

Is this just an indication of how many qualified pilots the Americans have lost in Iraq or does it show how not so smart their weaponry actually is?

Or was it more sinister than that?

New Jersey handed 15 Electoral College votes over to Kerry. Was this incident perhaps a post-election bitter backhanded bitchslap to show that this sort of thing was not going to be tolerated in 2008? The message was crystal clear to all those who chose to notice it. No matter how many times Coleman begins a rally in the Garden State with, "Whatchu talkin' 'bout, New Jersey?" those fifteen votes better go to Jeb Bush (or Marvin, or one of the twins or George again) or we make Columbine look like Breslan.
